Style File: Baskin Champion
We are so excited for this week’s Style File of our good friend and model, Baskin Champion! We first met Baskin back in 2012 when she modeled for us during Birmingham Fashion Week, and she quickly became one of the lovely faces of Soca. In addition to modeling, Baskin currently holds the title of Miss Alabama Teen USA. She will be competing in the Miss Teen USA pageant this weekend, and we couldn’t be more proud to have her representing our home state. Check out our interview with Baskin below!
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU.
I am from Birmingham, Alabama and I graduated from Vestavia Hills High School in 2013. I am currently a sophomore at Auburn University majoring in Apparel Design. One of my passions is modeling, especially for Soca Clothing. I am proud to be your Miss Alabama Teen USA and loving every second of it.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED MODELING?
My modeling career began when I was in eighth grade when I joined a local modeling agency. It was my childhood dream to work as a model and be in the fashion industry. One of my first runway shows was actually for Soca Clothing at Birmingham Fashion Week.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT MODELING?
My favorite thing about modeling is being able to meet lots of new people and being able to play dress up on a daily basis. It has also given me a platform to share my love for Christ.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING OPPORTUNITY YOU’VE HAD THROUGH MODELING OR PAGEANTS?
One of my most memorable and exciting opportunities was meeting Donald Trump at the Miss USA pageant in Baton Rouge.
WHAT ARE THREE THINGS THAT PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
The first thing I think that most people do not know about me is that on my seventeenth birthday I summited the tallest free-standing mountain in the world: Mount Kilimanjaro. The next thing that most people do not know is that I love to travel. One of my dreams is to make it to every continent. So far I have made it to four of the seven. The last thing that people do not know about me is that I have a huge sweet-tooth. I love ANY type of candy!
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE DOING IN FIVE YEARS?
In five years I hope to own my own clothing line that is cute and affordable for everyone!
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FIVE BEAUTY PRODUCTS? DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL BEAUTY TIPS?
Honestly, I do not like wearing makeup, therefore I opt out of wearing it most days! When I choose to wear makeup, I always make sure to have on my Becca Poreless Primer from Sephora and, of course, mascara. A unique beauty tip I use is that I clean my face with Witch Hazel every night before I go to sleep! I promise it prevents breakouts!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OWN PERSONAL STYLE?
My style changes a lot. Most days I just dress to be comfortable, but if I am going out I always try to wear something different than what most people would think to wear! I like to express my individuality!
WHAT FALL TREND ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT THIS SEASON?
I am excited that booties are back in! They make any outfit look super cute and chic! I cannot wait to wear mine with all my cute long sleeves and ripped jeans!
WHAT ARE YOUR MUST-HAVE TRAVEL ITEMS?
When I travel, I always make sure to have my phone charger and my blanket! I can’t stand having a dead phone, and having a blanket is a necessity for sleeping on any trip.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVORITE PLACES IN BIRMINGHAM?
Flemings Steakhouse is my favorite place to eat, but Great American Cookies have the best desserts by far! My favorite place to find new clothes is Soca Clothing because they have super cute and trendy outfits!
WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE OUR READERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
What I’d like your readers to know about me is that I love what I do and that modeling has led me to new people and new experiences I couldn’t have had otherwise. I am currently representing Alabama in the Miss Teen USA pageant in the Bahamas, and I hope to make my home state proud.
Be sure to follow Baskin on Instagram and root for her this Saturday during the Miss Teen USA pageant! She will also be taking over Soca’s Instagram tomorrow, July 31st, so follow along!
xoxo,
Soca & Baskin
